Unexpected friendships

The day started as many others; get up, make tea and coffee, read blogs, make moves in word feud and rummy, read e-mails and think about what to make for lunch and dinner. Breakfast requires no thought, some fresh fruit with yoghurt will always hit the spot...

We went for our daily walk about town and finally found the store, where we wanted to buy a wine jug, open for business. Not only did we buy the jug, but we added a couple of bowls and a platter to the mix. Great souvenirs to add to our stuff! You can never have enough stuff.

A priest singing with the congregation, hauntingly beautiful

For dinner I had decided on a chicken curry. But we still needed a few ingredients, so we hit the store. Some Sultana raisins and curry paste at the Super Bonanza were all that was left to make up the ingredient list... When we got home I realized we had no frozen peas, I like to add frozen peas to my curry, and a sour green apple. Oh well, can't have it all...

Little stalls with touristy trinkets

We went up to the roof deck for some sunshine and calm breezes. Enjoyed the rays with a cold Pacifico beer, when the phone rang... It was Bill, a friend of Barbara, wanting to invite her to an impromptu dinner at his house. Shelagh explained to him that Barbara is holidaying on the coast and will not be back 'till March 1st. "Well, I'm cooking a pork loin roast with potatoes au gratin. Would you two like to meet some new people"? A bit flabbergasted, Shelagh accepted the invitation. Off we went at about 4:30 to get a nice bottle of wine to go to a place for dinner with complete strangers! We love our new life, saying YES to unexpected fun is part of that. The chicken for the curry got returned to the fridge, tomorrow is another day...

Cops on horseback

Dinner was great. The pork roasted to perfection on the barbecue. Fresh tomato and avocado slices and cabbage, followed by a dessert of ice cream with fresh blackberries covered with Baileys. Plenty of wine, conversation and laughter. When the time came to go home, Bill gave us a lift on his Honda quad. Zooming through the narrow cobble stone streets of San Miguel with the three of us on a quad was a complete riot! We were dropped off at our front gate and were spared the uphill climb to our house. All this from a person we had never met, just because of a phone call to someone who was not home. We met four people, Bill, Ed and Paula and Bliss, all of them wonderful with great stories to share.

Thanks Bill, you're amazing!

  4. A little joke to our family! We purge through our stuff about every six months. We always tell the kids for gifts we want to eat it, watch it or drink it. We do not want to put a nail in the wall or find a space to display it. These little dishes will one day get broken and that is fine. We will enjoy using them and have some nice memories till that happens.
    The quad ride was spectacular!

  6. Every time I open your blog I can hear and feel the vibe that is SMdA!! We just love it so much!! In one of your walk, try and get down to Weber's Tennis & RV Park. That is our "hang-out" spot. Also, be sure and go to Guanajuato and see the mummy museum. Creepy but so cool. Bring your walking shoes - SO many steps but Doug managed to do them, even with a minor heart-condition!!

Loving your posts - keep 'em coming!!
